Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks to Host OVC Cross Country Championship

Southeast Athletics

Southeast Missouri will host the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship meet for the first time since 2008, on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau.

The course will open at 8 a.m. for spectators with the women running a 5K at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 10 a.m. The meet is free and open to the public.

Redhawks cross country coach Ryan Lane said the program is privileged to host one of 32 Division I conference championship meets in Cape Girardeau. He is excited to be able to put on true championship event and make the meet something the University and the town both can be proud of, and also gives Redhawk athletes the best opportunity to perform at their highest level.

Several food vendors will be on site at the event including Sugarfire Smoke House, Imo's Pizza, Baristas Coffee Bar, and Bon Bon's of Cape Girardeau. The Ohio Valley Conference will also have a tent where patrons can buy championship merchandise.

The Redhawk women have won two meets in the early 2018 season, as well as a sixth place finish at the Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic this past weekend, the highest finish at the meet in program history. Meanwhile, Southeast's men placed second in their first two meets of the 2018 campaign.

The cross country teams are off this weekend, but the Redhawks Volleyball will host Tennessee Tech tomorrow at Houck Field House at 2 p.m.
