Let's Talk Business: Sky West Airlines Adds Flights at Cape Airport

Cape Chamber

A real area game changer started January 7th, 2019. Any guesses?

This past Monday, January 7th, Sky West Airlines began offering three flights a day to Chicago O’Hare International Airport from the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. Departures are at approximately 6:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 4:00 p.m. with return flights at approximately 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., and 11:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The early morning and late afternoon flight have one stop in Paducah, Kentucky, and the mid-day flight is non-stop. In addition, there are now two roundtrips on Saturday and Sunday. One stops in Paducah and one is non-stop.

This is a game changer for several reasons. First, business travelers are more and more dependent upon reaching flexible destinations as easily as possible. This is a real benefit in economic development. Our existing business base includes many national and international travelers and new business prospects consider this a plus.

Second, recreational travelers can reach the world from Chicago. This is a big plus for family vacations, students, and those just looking for a weekend getaway to the Windy City.

Finally, the success of Sky West serving Chicago and the added third flight should push our airport boarding numbers above 10,000 for 2019. This results in approximately $1 million dollars from the federal government to be used for airport improvements – each year the 10,000 plateau is reached.

We invite you to experience the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport and this new schedule.
