All About Cape: Fall Means Autumn Masterpieces and Football

Visit Cape

Now that autumn is upon us, it will not be long before the landscape will be adorned with multicolored splendor.  This region has some of the prettiest views around, whether you are overlooking the scenic river or meandering along a winding, wooded trail.

Cape has plenty of places to soak in the crisp fall air. You may choose from one of our 23 parks some of which are designed for your furry friend. You can find the traditional swings, pavilions, ponds, rose gardens and playgrounds that meet everyone’s needs.  Plus, there are miles of trails running through town and beyond, offering an up-close view of nature’s autumn masterpiece.

If you want to challenge yourself, the Coors Light Trail of Tears Triathlon provides an opportunity to push yourself to the limit.  It is a 700-meter swim, 15-mile bike ride and four-mile run.  Think you have what it takes? Head to Trail of tears State Park on Saturday, September 7 to find out.  Registration begins at 6:45 a.m., and runners take off at 9 a.m.

The triathlon has Missouri roots dating back to the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.  Three men competed in an early version of the triathlon, featuring three events; the long jump, shot put and the 100-yard dash.  The events have evolved over the years, but the basic idea remains the same.

Also, in sports this week, Tiger fans get ready, the Cape Central Tigers take the field for their first home game on September 6 at 7 p.m.  It is the cherished tradition of Friday night football here in Southeast Missouri and if you aren’t there you don’t know what you are missing!
