Cape Girardeau Announces New Incoming City Manager: Dr. Kenneth Haskin

Just after noon on Thurs. Apr. 22, in the City Council Chambers, the City of Cape Girardeau officially announced the new incoming Cape Girardeau city manager, after a nationwide search.

Cape Girardeau's mayor, Bob Fox, introduced Dr. Kenneth Haskin, or Kenny Haskin, as he prefers to be called casually, for the first time, with city council members behind him, and several community leaders present.

"He's a visionary leader, he's collaborative, he's a consensus builder, he's a strategic planner--which we need too, but he's an excellent communicator", said Mayor Fox.

The new city manager will take on the role of the current leader, Scott Meyer, who is preparing for retirement.

Dr. Haskin described his management style to the crowd and his new colleagues.

"You know, I'm sort of a high-energy guy sometimes. I'm an ex-football player, I like to create a lot of energy, and synergy. And I think the staff and council will probably like that, moving forward. At least, I certainly believe that to be the case", said Dr. Haskin.

His most recent experience was that of city manager of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Haskin described his thoughts on the new role in Cape. "This is a great day in the City of Cape Girardeau. I am humbled by this moment, and deeply grateful for the mayor and the council, for choosing me as their next city manager."

Haskin is credentialed by ICMA (International City/County Management Association), is an active member of the Arkansas and Texas City Managers Association, involved within the National League of Cities, and a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Board member, among many other organizations.

Dr. Kenny Haskin officially begins his role as Cape Girardeau's city manager on June 1st, as outgoing city manager, Scott Meyer, prepares for retirement.

After the press conference, KRCU Public Radio also spoke with Dr. Haskin about his goals and expectations in the new role. Listen to the interview below.
