Southern Illinois state representative Mike Bost will be making a bid for Congress.
The Murphysboro Republican made campaign stops in in Belleville, Mt. Vernon, and Murphysboro Monday.
In an a letter sent to media on Monday, Bost says he made his decision based on the current climate in Washington, and how choices being made today affect the nation's future.
Bost has been considering a run for the 12th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat and first term U-S Representative Bill Enyart. Earlier this month Bost had said he would make his decision by the end of the month.
Bost has represented the 115th District in the Illinois House of Representative since 1995.
