Ste. Genevieve County Breaks Ground On New Water Park
Last week, Ste. Genevieve broke ground on a new water park. The final installment of an expansion project by Ste. Genevieve county, plans for the park have been in the works for about a year, and it’s expected to be completed within another year.
Previous projects within the expansion included a baseball field, completed in 2015; a playground and tennis courts, completed in 2016; and a sports complex, completed in June of last year. The county passed a sales tax in April of 2017 to fund the water park portion.
Brad Arnold, executive director of the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center, says although the water park was the most expensive portion of the expansion, it was the most requested.
“The more studies we did and people we reached out to,” says Arnold, “we found that sizing the park to what we're doing now is going to be the best opportunity for the community to not only serve the needs of the people that live here, but also bring other people into our community.”
Attractions at the water park will include a lazy river, wading pool, 4 water slides, 6-lane lap pool, zipline, diving board, climbing wall, party areas, and concessions. The park is expected to create nearly 125 part-time jobs.
Arnold says they are very close to narrowing a name down for the attraction, and the county is hoping to celebrate opening day on Memorial Day 2019.
