A new project has been added as the development of the Veteran’s Plaza at Cape Girardeau County Park North continues. Existing sidewalks at the memorial will be replaced with pavers honoring the names of Cape Girardeau County veterans who have already purchased a flag on the “Avenue of Flags”.
Bryan Sander, county park superintendent, says matching the existing sidewalks was not possible, so they looked for an alternative solution.
“Rather than have two different concretes up there, and for aesthetics and to make everything handicap accessible, we were just able to replace the sidewalks,” says Sander.
Stork Landscaping was awarded the bid as contractor, and the installment is slated to begin around August 1.
Sander says this is not a purchased paver fundraiser, and those interested in purchasing a flag or granite paver must contact Dave Cantrell with the VFW Post 3838 at djcantrell@charter.net.
