High Noon Five: Senate Candidates Last Minute Campaigning, Sex-Offender List, MDC Studies Potential

Senate Candidate Claire McCaskill and Todd Akin make their final campaign appearance in an attempt to persuade last-minute voters. TheSt. Louis Post Dispatch’s Kevin McDermott reports McCaskill is going after her key supporters -- college students, seniors and union workers. Akin is targeting rural conservatives.

The Missouri Senate race has remained in the national headlines for the last few months. However, there has been one candidate who hasn’t received as much attention. Jonathan Dine is the Libertarian for the Missouri race. According to the Washington Post, Dine is an alternative between Akin and McCaskill, but many believe he will take more votes aways from Akin.

The Southeast Missourian’s Scott Moyers writes some Missouri law enforcement officials believe the state should lower the number of registered sex offenders. They believe the list no longer represents the “worst-of-the-worst” offenders. Others say the law is clear.

The struggling economy is creating a housing trend for Missourians. According to the Kansas City Star, more Missourians are starting to live out of motel rooms. The Star reports that the number of students living in hotels or motels is hard to track, but experts have seen a 140% increase from 2007 to 2012.

  The Missouri Department of Conservation is determining if wolves are in Missouri. The Columbia Tribune reports last week, a hunter shot what he believed to be a record-sized coyote, but now the MDC is performing DNA testing to see if it is a wolf or a hybrid of the two. The test will take three to six months to determine the species.
