Mizzou Chancellor Deaton Resigns

University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton announced Wednesday that he will retire in November of this year. Deaton says there are no negative motivations behind his retirement. He said the time was right, and he wants to spend more time with family.

Chancellor Deaton said recruitment and retention of faculty, growth in research, and campus diversity are among his proudest achievements as chancellor.

“This is a time that is given to great thought and emotion and I’m very happy to have had the opportunity to have served as chancellor for the last nine years here at the university,” Deaton said.

UM System President Tim Wolfe will be responsible for finding the Chancellor’s replacement.  Deaton said the transition process should go smoothly.

“From our perspective the future is bright,” Deaton said. “ We’ll get through these transitions in smooth and effective ways, with emphasis always on the quality that we are achieving as an educational institution.”

Deaton will continue to serve as chancellor emeritus of the university and will focus on the university’s role in international development.

He will turn 71 years old in August.
