Schnucks supermarket announced Monday that 79 out of 100 stores are at risk for credit and debit card fraud including its store in Cape Girardeau.

An unknown cyber perpetrator stole card information from Schnucks stores between December 2012 and March of this year, potentially compromising 2.4 million consumer credit and debit cards.

Scott Schnuck is the the company's chairman and CEO. He says no names or addresses were compromised, only card numbers and expiration dates. On a video posted on the Schnucks website, he says the company is working with the FBI and others to ensure this doesn’t occur again.

“We are working with our card processor to provide all potentially affected card numbers to the banks that issued them,” Schnuck said. “Those banks can then conduct enhanced monitoring or reissue new cards.”

Schnuck continues to says his company is working diligently to provide answers.

“I have pushed for the investigation, led by the nation’s premier forensic firm, to be completed as quickly as possible, so we could share accurate and meaningful information with you, our valued customers,” Schnuck said.

Schnuck is sharing intelligence with other corporations to help prevent future fraudulent attacks.
