City Government Seeks Public Input For Nuisance Ordinance

City of Cape Girardeau

The city of Cape Girardeau wants to hear what residents think about some proposed changes to the city’s nuisance ordinances. There will be a public meeting Wednesday, August 28 at the Osage Center at 6:00 pm.

City manager Scott Meyer said the city is looking to be a little more aggressive with nuisance enforcement for things like excessive weeds and eyesores.

“With weeds growing, or vehicles parked out and parts or whatever, that’s something we’re looking to change and to be more aggressive with,” Meyer said. “We’re really looking to get people’s input to that. Some people may like it, some people may not. We want to hear from everybody."

Meyer said the proposed ordinance contains more specific definitions to help city officials cite for nuisances. It also changes notification and gives increased fines for persistent noncompliance.
