Garcia Agrees To Be Extradited

Omaha, NE Police Department

Dr. Anthony Garcia agreed to be extradited during a hearing Wednesday at the Union County Court in Jonesboro, IL. Garcia faces four counts of first degree murder in Omaha, Nebraska. He's charged with killing a doctor and his wife, as well as another doctor's son and another woman.

Garcia was a pathology resident at Creighton University more than a decade ago, and investigators say he has connections to the victims - at least one of which fired Garcia for what he called erratic behavior.

Attorneys Bob and Allison Motta represented Garcia at today's hearing and  will be the attorneys representing Garcia in Nebraska.

Bob Motta said the state has a heavy burden proving its case and he is ready to put prosecutors to the test.

“It’s a high profile case,” Bob said. “My client steadfastly confesses his innocence. His family is obviously in a state of shock at this point. I ask everybody to please respect their wishes and leave them alone. They’re dealing with this the best they can and it came as a complete shock to them.”

Garcia will be held in the state of Illinois without bond. There will be another hearing on July 31 before Garcia is extradited.

Garcia will remain in Illinois until the state of Nebraska picks him up which will take up to two weeks.

Garcia was arrested in a traffic stop in Union County on Monday.
