Rediscovering the Trail of Tears in Missouri

Rediscovering the Trail of Tears in Missouri

The Steelville Area Historical Society will present REDISCOVERING THE TRAIL OF TEARS IN MISSOURI, brought to you by Missouri Humanities

In December of 1837, the first of many detachments forced along the Trail of Tears came through Steelville, Missouri. Almost a year later, over 10,000 Cherokee men, women, and children followed. By the end, 4 of every 10 Cherokee died on their way West. Many lives were impacted in terrible and highly traumatic ways due to this episode in our past. Discover how this horrific event happened and how we can keep it from happening again.

Join us and our guests, renowned Trail of Tears researcher Dr. William D. “Bill” Ambrose and geo-historical researcher and author Chris Dunn for an evening of remembrance and enlightenment as we uncover the secrets of the Trail of Tears in Missouri.

This event is free and open to the public.
