On Thursday, Mar. 5, Dr. Gabby Baffoni, Assistant Professor of Single Reeds at Southeast, visited host Tom Harte at high noon for a Caffe special. The two discussed an upcoming visit from The 442s at the next installment of the Southeast Department of Music’s Sundays at 3 concert series.

The self-described “genre-defying acoustic instrumental group” from St. Louis explores the boundaries of jazz, classical, folk, and rock music. It won’t be their first visit to Shuck Recital Hall, but their performance is nonetheless highly anticipated by jazz and classical fans alike from across the region, especially by Harte, who notes the group’s “attractive quality.”

Baffoni says it’s very hard to describe The 442s “in terms of genre,” but agrees.

“It has a warm, accessible quality to it,” says Baffoni. “There are definitely classical elements; the string instruments are featured, and also more jazz and folk elements of the vocals and the style. It’s sort of a cross between the two.”

Tickets for the concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 8 can be purchased online, or by calling the River Campus Box Office at (573) 651-2265.
