April showers not only bring May Flowers but, a lot of inspiration from the art world. The galleries are full of creativity at its finest. The First Friday with the Arts is a community-centered event. Established in 2003, First Friday with the Arts is an open invitation for all to come and engage with the local and regional artists. The galleries may have live music, artist receptions, appetizers, and beverages for the visitors of their gallery. Each of the galleries located in and around Downtown Cape Girardeau participates in the monthly event by opening for later hours from 5 pm – 9 pm; it is a great way to kick starts the weekend.
May has another event that gets everyone’s attention and that is the downtown tailgate flea market. Just about anything you can think of from toys, jewels, pottery, furniture and even a cow bell can be found there. The young to the young at heart will enjoy strolling through the vendors and admiring their wares. After you have walked a few miles or more the restaurants and food trucks are there to fuel you up again!
