The St. Louis Symphony is Coming to the River Campus

Southeast Missouri State University

April brings a visiting symphony, a Broadway classic, and the future of art.

And, the latest starts with a visit from one of the nation’s oldest symphonies on April 13. The St. Louis Symphony makes its way to the Bedell stage for a return engagement on the Symphony Series. The orchestra will be playing everything from Mendelssohn to Mozart. Leading the symphony is resident conductor Gemma New. The New Zealand born conductor was appointed in 2016 to the St. Louis Symphony and is also music director for the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra in Ontario and enjoys guest engagements with orchestras in Europe and her homeland.

Beginning next Monday, April 16, is the first installment of the BFA Graduating Senior Exhibitions in the River Campus Art Gallery. Each week-long collection displays the body of work students developed throughout their last two semesters of coursework in their area of specialization. Receptions are held each Friday at 5 p.m.

And, next Wednesday, April 18, offers the debut of the Broadway classic A Raisin in the Sun in the Rust Theatre. The play depicts a few weeks in the life of the Youngers, an African-American family living on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s. The work was named best play by the New York Drama Critics Circle and saw a cast including Ruby Dee and Sidney Poitier. At the River Campus, talented students from The Conservatory of Theatre & Dance fill the roles led by guest director Tyla Abercrumbie, an actor and writer from Chicago.

You can buy tickets to these and more at RiverCampus.org and I look forward to seeing you soon at the Box Office!
