This week we'll hear new music from Algiers, the Atlanta band that melds themes and genres of the U.S. south into uneasy soul music. Lead singer Franklin James Fisher told The Mothershipthat he once heard "that you don't know what real power is until you're on the wrong side of it." That idea is at the forefront of their latest album, which is titled The Underside of Power

The Decemberists, who have long embraced the tragedy and epic lore of British folk music have a found a soulmate in Olivia Chaney, who studied voice and piano in Oxford, England. Their collaboration is called Offa Rex and their debut album is titled The Queen of Hearts

Left of the Dial airs Friday nights from 9-11 and Saturdays from noon-2 on KRCU.
