Emma Ruth Rundle is a long-time member of the Los Angeles post-metal progressive rock scene by way of the bands Nocturnes, Red Sparowes, and Marriages. The gloomy apocalyptic atmospheres that pound out of this music sounds like a California scene from a state that's already fallen into the ocean. Her solo work is is distinct from these bands but maintains their foreboding tone. Her forthcoming album is titled Marked For Death and is set to be released on September 30th.

Speedy Ortiz have a companion EP to last year's Foil Deer titled Foiled Again. The song "Death Note" sounds like Silversun Pickups, which is to say it sounds like Smashing Pumpkins.

Vinyl Williams has an album on the way titled Brunei, and it's a concept album with such a specific direction that I feel it's best to let the press-release do the talking. It "follows the flight of an incorporeal being from Xol, the gravity cluster orbiting the star Alnilam, the center of the Orion constellation."

One of this weekend's most satisfying rabbit-holes to burrow down is The Greville Tapes Music Club. The concept is to shack up two bands together for a week, and to document the magic

Left Of The Dial airs Friday nights from 9-11 and Saturdays from noon-2 on 90.9FM, 88.9FM, and online at krcu.org.
