The event will go on from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Hundreds of corvettes from all over the nation and across the region will spend the night in downtown Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, August 26th as the Corvette Caravan will visit the city on their way to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.

Danny Essner of Capaha Bank and planning committee member of the event said in a press release that between 300 and 400 caravan members will be in town during the festivities. In addition, local cars will also be on display. Hoods will be up and people will get to have a close look inside the corvettes.

The corvettes will cruise down Broadway from Capaha Park to Main street and free festivities will await for people downtown.

Chuck Martin, executive director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, said this event is part of the National Corvette Caravan, which makes its way every five years to the National Corvette Museum. The Corvettes in Cape event is a unique opportunity for the community to see them up close before they head to the museum for good.

“There literally will be hundreds of corvettes in the downtown along with just a lot of different fun activities,” Martin said.

Festivities will include music provided by Hot Rod Nights along with other driving related activities.

“Not only will you be able to see the cars but there will be Fatal Vision Goggles which is a display by the Cape Police Department, a display called the Seat Belt Convincer by the Highway Patrol and the NASCAR Simulator will be there which is provided by Auto Tire and Parts,” detailed Martin.

The Fatal Vision Goggles is a device that gives an idea of what someone’s vision is like when under the influence. The Seat Belt Convincer is an exhibit designed to show that seatbelts save lives and aims at convincing people to buckle up while driving. Finally, the NASCAR Simulator is a fun activity that shows what it's like to drive a NASCAR car.

The one-night-only event will take place from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on South Main Street in Cape Girardeau on August 26th.
