Controversial Pastor Brother Jed Gets Reality TV Show Pilot

Brother Jed Smock and his family of self-proclaimed confrontational evangelists are hoping to have their own reality TV show.

Brother Jed is President of the Campus Ministry USA. His message is based on Christianity but he draws controversy for chastising students for things like wearing revealing clothing, holding hands before marriage, demeaning believers of other faiths, or for singing condescending songs about homosexuality. He said a TV show will spread his message to people outside of college.

“When I posted on Facebook, I said “Stand aside Duck Dynasty. Here comes Brother Jed and Company.”  So, when you’re on TV, you want to have good ratings and be number one,” Jed said.

Producer Roger Nygard remembers encountering Brother Jed in college. He said the show will star Brother Jed, his wife Cindy, his five daughters, and Sister Pat, a preacher that lives with the family. It will feature the drama, challenges, and lifestyle of the family.

“It’ll prompt discussion for people. To me, the best TV shows cause people to think. Maybe a little bit of thinking will happen as well as some entertainment because Brother Jed is certainly very entertaining,” Nygard said.

The pilot episode will be filmed in November and sent to Country Music Television for approval of a contract. If CMT accepts, Nygard hopes to start filming some time next year.

Brother Jed says he will make another stop at Southeast Missouri State University in the Spring.
