Some of the biggest names in regional archeology will be at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus this Saturday.
The 2013 Mississippian Archeology Conference will feature reviews of archeological sites in the region.
Jim Phillips is the curator of collections and exhibitions at the Crisp Museum. He said there will be a variety of presenters. According to Phillips, some of them will focus on nearby Mississippian sites.
“There’s the south Cape site that’s actually in Cape Girardeau,” Phillips said. “There’s also sites from Kincaid in Illinois, Cahokia near St. Louis, and mostly in that area. But it all pertains to archeology in this area because it’s a fairly continuous group of people.”
There will be 18 presenters. Registration begins at 8:00 am and there is a $5 fee for entry.
