Two-Minute Drill: Rowdy the Redhawk Suffers Injury, Hospitalized

Southeast Athletics

“You’ll shoot your eye out,” they told him.

SEMO’s mascot Rowdy the Redhawk sustained serious injuries earlier this week in a t-shirt cannon accident, and is currently hospitalized.

As was widely circulated in the SEMO Athletic Department video production, A Rowdy Christmas Story, for Christmas this year Rowdy was asking Santa for an Official Bleacher Reacher Pro CO2 action one-shot stadium model t-shirt cannon… with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

Rowdy received his wish on Christmas morning, as SEMO President Dr. Carlos Vargas and his wife Pam surprised Rowdy with his very own Bleacher Reacher Pro.

However, when Rowdy went to the Show Me Center for target practice, things took a terrible turn for the worse and turned holiday cheer into holiday calamity that resulted in injuries to Rowdy’s eye and beak area, arm, and legs.

Rowdy is now in stable condition at SoutheastHEALTH, and doctors anticipate a recovery time of 4-6 weeks that will include exhaustive rehab.

Fans can watch parts 1 & 2 of A Rowdy Christmas Story on the Redhawks facebook page at Facebook.com/GoSoutheast.

Fans who wish to send Rowdy “Get Well” cards and encouragement, may do so by mailing to Rowdy at One University Plaza, MS 0200, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
