Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Score 70 in Rout of Tennessee Tech, Santacaterina Earns Award

Southeast Athletics

Head football coach Tom Matukewicz said there was no doubt quarterback Daniel Santacaterina was going to bounce back last week after a rough game at EKU three weeks ago. And bounce-back he did.

Santacaterina threw for 395 yards and four touchdowns on the way to earning the OVC Newcomer of the Week Award – his second of the season – as the Redhawks scored 70 points in a win at Tennessee Tech last Saturday. SEMO scored 10 touchdowns, with seven different players scoring at least one. The Redhawks racked up a single game record 692 yards along the way, and the 70 points were SEMO's most in a game against an NCAA Division I opponent.

Matukewicz said after the game he was most pleased with the strong start of the football team. The Redhawks scored three touchdowns in the first eight minutes of the contest, including a blocked punt returned for a touchdown.

Santacaterina has proven himself a key addition at quarterback this season. He currently ranks 16th nationally in passing touchdowns (11), 22nd in passing efficiency (150.7) and 30th in points responsible for (14.4/game).

Santacterina and the Redhawks return to Houck Field tomorrow for Homecoming with a 3-2 overall record, the second best overall winning percentage in the OVC. Kickoff versus Austin Peay is scheduled for 1 p.m.
