Doroshenko Named adidas® OVC Tennis Co-Female Athlete of the Week

Southeast Athletics

This week’s Two Minute Drill is the third in a four-part Cindy Gannon Walk for Women series, highlighting the accomplishments of our women student-athletes and coaches.

Sophomore tennis student-athlete Oleksandra Doroshenko was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Co-Female Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Doroshenko posted a perfect 4-0 record this past week in singles and doubles with wins over Western Illinois and Eastern Kentucky.

"Oleksandra has played some fantastic tennis this week and has shown how much she has grown as a player," head coach Mary Beth Gunn said of Doroshenko. "I am very proud of how she has played in the close moments of the match and how she has maintained focus on the court."

Competing at the top singles position, Doroshenko beat both of her opponents in straight sets this week, including a win over EKU’s number one in the first OVC match of the year. With the two wins this week, Doroshenko has now extended her singles winning streak to four matches.

On the doubles side, Doroshenko teamed up with fellow Ukranian, Kseniya Zonova, for the first time at Southeast. At the top doubles spot, the pair picked up a pair of 6-2 victories. The award marks the third career weekly OVC honor for Doroshenko and second for Southeast Missouri women's tennis in 2018.

The 11th Annual Cindy Gannon Walk for Women will be held Saturday, April 7 at Houck Field House, to raise money benefitting student-athlete scholarships. Learn more online at walkforwomen.semo.edu.
