Southeast Missouri State University will recognize the military service of veterans and their families with a new Veterans Plaza to begin taking shape in the Spring 2020 semester.
The Veterans Plaza will be located between Academic Hall and Memorial Hall on the Southeast campus. It will consist of engraved bricks to honor the military service of alumni, friends, family members and others.
The ribbon-cutting and dedication will take place on May 1, 2020.
Tom Meyer is involved with the project and he stopped by the studios to tell us more about it. He told us that the entire project is 100% veteran supported. He said, "It's nothing to do with any monies from the university, it's not in their budget. This is wholly developed and processed and funded by veterans."
Meyer told us that bricks will continually be added to the plaza and there is room to grow the plaza in years to come. In addition, any monies collected beyond what the bricks will cost is going to a scholarship for returning veterans.
