Kanakuk Camp Temporarily Closes K-2 Site After 82 Test Positive For COVID-19

The number of people who have tested positive at a Kanakuk camp location is up to 82, according to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services director, Randall Williams.

Williams said the camp, K-2 in Lampe, has temporarily shut down and is voluntarily testing all staff members.  They plan to open up an abbreviated session once test results come back, according to Williams, who said he will not recommend they close for the summer.  "We think camps are important for young people," he said.

MO DHSS worked with summer camps in April and May in developing plans for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and for what to do if campers or staff tested positive, Williams said.

Kanakuk has six camp locations in Stone and Taney Counties.
