Kelsey Proud started at St. Louis Public Radio in 2010, six years ago, as a temporary web producer. Over the years, she contributed to the station in many different ways, lastly, as our Digital Innovation Editor. This week marks Kelsey’s last with us, as she leaves St. Louis to take on the role of Managing Editor of Digital at Washington, D.C.’s WAMU 88.5.

During her time here, Kelsey saw many changes in the way journalism is done and helped lead the charge in St Louis Public Radio’s foray into digital spaces with social media, web content, visuals and community engagement. On Friday’sSt. Louis on the Air, she reflected with host Don Marsh about the changes she’s seen in journalism, web journalism and what she sees going forward.

While at St. Louis Public Radio, Kelsey also led the newsroom to two high-profile awards for its digital work: A Peabody-Facebook Futures of Media Award for the “One Year in Ferguson” project and a national Edward R. Murrow Award for its website from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

“Our role as journalists is no longer just to take information in and print it or broadcast it,” Proud said of her time reporting on unrest in Ferguson, where she created a live blog to update listeners of the latest news there. “Our role is to make things less scary, to curate a bit around what’s going on.”

We’ll miss you, Kelsey! Thank you for all you have done for St. Louis Public Radio.
