The National Weather Service has released information about a winter storm that will soon hit southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.
National Weather Service meteorologist Robin Smith says rain will move in Thursday, which will transition to freezing rain, to sleet, and then to a duration of snow Friday morning. Smith says they are unsure of how much winter precipitation we will receive, but he knows the cold will not end Friday.
“Everything should be out by Saturday morning, however in saying that, we’re going to have another cold snap,” says Smith. “Temperatures Sunday morning and Monday morning will likely be in the single digits, and with the wind, we will probably have wind chills below 0.”
Drivers should use caution due to black ice on Friday and snow over the weekend. Smith predicts that since we are only in mid-January, this isn’t the last winter weather we will see move through this season.
