Students and community members with a musical talent have a chance to audition for the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music’s production of Wolfgang Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 3 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus.

Auditions are open to Southeast students as well as community members. Community members who try out should be high-school aged or older.

Those auditioning should prepare and practice one song in any language, preferably in the “classical” or traditional style.

An accompanist will be provided by the Department of Music.

This year’s production will be enhanced by grant funding and will include super titles, projected backgrounds created by Louise Bodenheimer, scenery, orchestra and costumes designed by Deana Luetkenhaus.

Chorus rehearsals for those selected will be Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:30-5:45 p.m. from Sept. 10 through Feb. 1.

“The Magic Flute [has] spoken dialogue, a fairy-tale plot with hidden meanings, and some of the most enchantingly profound music that Mozart ever composed,” according to Robert Donnington’s book, “Opera.” It is a two-act opera that first premiered in 1791.
