Are you planning your autumn hikes? If you’re looking for a paved trail, traverse the Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail, clocking in at just under 5 miles long and goes right through the middle of Cape Girardeau; the section that runs through the Cape Woods is a personal favorite.  Multiple access points, restrooms and drinking fountains allow you to enjoy a long or short jaunt.  The Cape Riverfront Trail gets you up close and personal with the Mighty Mississippi, running right along the river in downtown Cape Girardeau.  A newly extended section adds another quarter of a mile to this flat, wide, paved trail in the shade of the flood wall.  Benches allow for a leisurely rest stop to watch a barge head up or downriver.
