Two-Minute Drill: Track & Field Student-Athletes Excel During Outdoor Season

SEMO Athletics

The SEMO Track & Field teams are continuing to collect OVC Athlete of the Week honors this spring. The Redhawks have won at least one weekly honor during all eight weeks of the outdoor season.

Most recently, yesterday Kaitlyn Shea was named the Female Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Shea recorded career best time in the 5,000 meters at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, once again breaking her own school record. Shea, a senior from Jefferson City, Missouri, ranks 37th in the NCAA West Region and is first overall in the OVC for the event.

Last week, senior Carli Knott also won the Female Track Athlete of the Week award after she broke a 22-year old school record in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:23.89.

On April 15, freshman Josiah Kilgore earned Male Field Athlete of the Week honors. The Poplar Bluff native had set a new personal best in the javelin throw. He currently ranks first in the OVC in the event.

And the week before that, Donald Hatfield Jackson earned Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week honors after setting a new school record in the long jump. Hatfield Jackson currently ranks second in the OVC in the long jump.

The Redhawks continue their outdoor seasons with a pair of tune-ups the next two weekends before they compete for the OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships the second week of May.
