Two-Minute Drill: Terry Earns National Recognition as the Redhawks Beat SIU

Southeast Athletics
Marquis Terry

Southeast Missouri senior running back Marquis Terry was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week and STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Terry broke the SEMO and OVC single-game records in both rushing yards (311) and all-purpose yards (438) in the Redhawks 48-44 victory over rival Southern Illinois. He also scored four touchdowns. The 311 yards mark the most by a player at any level of NCAA football (FBS, FCS, II, III) this season.

His 438 all-purpose yards are also the most by a NCAA football player this year (no other player has reached 400 yards and no other FCS player has gained 300 yards).

Terry, who had an upset stomach after being too hydrated prior to kickoff at SIU, became the first running back in SEMO's Division I era to rush for over 200 yards in back-to-back games. He leads the nation in all-purpose yards (264.6 ypg) and rushing touchdowns (6), and is second in rushing yards (590) and rushing yards per game (196.7).

With the win at SIU, the Redhawks also received five votes in this week's STATS Top 25 Poll. The last time SEMO received votes in the STATS Top 25 Poll was also the week after it beat Southern Illinois in 2015.

SEMO returns to action tomorrow in their first game of OVC play at Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time and fans can watch the game live on the ESPN+ streaming service.
