Two-Minute Drill: SEMO Softball Sweeps Awards, Goes for OVC Title

SEMO Athletics

Southeast Missouri swept the Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards for the second time this season Monday. Ashley Ellis was named OVC Player of the Week, while Rachel Rook claimed the league's Pitcher of the Week honor.

Ellis, a senior from Arnold, Missouri, homered three times and hit .500 in SEMO's series sweep of Murray State (May 1-2). Ellis hit a pair of home runs and broke the program's all-time career home run record in the series finale against the Racers. She also scored three runs and had four RBI. Ellis posted her fourth multi-home run game of the season and now has 51 career home runs, including a team-high 17 this year.

A native of Republic, Missouri, Rook went 2-0 with two complete games, a shutout and a save in against Murray State. She tossed a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to open the series. Rook then picked up a two-out save in game two before striking out nine more in seven innings during the finale. For the series, she allowed only two runs, scattered eight hits, struck out 20 and walked only one in 14.2 innings.

The Redhawks lead the OVC and will travel to Jacksonville State (22-21, 20-11) for its final series of the regular-season this weekend. SEMO is in position to win the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title for the second straight season with a win over Jacksonville State and one Eastern Kentucky loss.
