Two-Minute Drill: SEMO Softball Ranks Fourth in the Nation in Team GPA

Southeast Athletics

The SEMO Softball program continues to garner recognition for its remarkable performance last season. Only this time, the honors are pouring in for their performance in the classroom.

The Redhawks Softball team ranked fourth in the entire nation with a 3.678 team grade point average for the 2018-19 school year. They trailed the national leader in team GPA by less than one-tenth of a grade point.

The Redhawks also had 17 players who earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete status.

Kaylee Anderson, Rachel Anderson, Mykaela Arellanes, Addison Barnouski, Rachael Donald, Ashley Emert, Alexis Estes, Claudia Gallo, Anna Griffin, Madison Harris, Mackenzie Long, Danina Marton, Chelsy Pena, Brooke Rheinecker, Rachel Rook, Haley Thogmartin and Leaha Wininger were SEMO's NFCA Scholar-Athletes.

On the diamond in 2019, the SEMO Softball program played in its first NCAA Regional in 20 years, including the second NCAA Regional victory in program history when they eliminated Chattanooga.

Southeast Missouri was one of 11 programs honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as 2019 Division I Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year, on the heels of a program-record 46 wins, and claiming the OVC regular-season and tournament titles to advance to its first NCAA Tournament in 20 years. Additionally, the 2019 team broke a total of 17 single-season records.

The Softball teams received their OVC Championship rings earlier this fall at a ceremony during halftime of the football season opener vs. SIU.
