SEMO Athletics launched its "Reinvest in the Nest" initiative to help navigate financial consequences from the COVID-19 pandemic and position the Redhawks for future success.
SEMO Athletics is facing a number of lost revenue opportunities as a result of Fall sports postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps most notably, the football guarantee game at Ole Miss, which was worth $450,000 for the athletic department. Other challenges include the reschedule fall season to the spring, as well as additional expenses to help ensure the health and safety of student-athletes.
In the announcement for the Reinvest in the Nest initiative, Director of Athletics Brady Barke said that the program needs the support of fans, alumni, and the community now more than ever.
The Reinvest in the Nest initiative asks any SEMO fan, alumni, or community member to consider making a tax deductible donation to support student-athlete scholarships, which will continue to be awarded to help provide educational opportunities to students despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.
In addition, while the Athletic Department is standing by its pledge to offer refunds to football season ticket holders, fans also have the option to Reinvest or Rollover their season ticket purchase.
At the time the spring season came to an end due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SEMO was first in the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings. The Redhawks enter the 2020-21 campaign as defending conference champions in five different sports.
