Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Track & Field Prepares for the OVC Championships

Southeast Athletics

Southeast Missouri track and field will welcome the Ohio Valley Conference to Cape Girardeau for the 2019 Men's and Women's OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship May 9-11 at the Abe Stuber Track Complex for the first time since 2012.

Head coach Eric Crumpecker said it is a special opportunity to be able to host your conference championship and everyone in the program is excited to get to compete at home this year.

The Redhawks have a lot to be excited about, as they’ve experienced success during the outdoor track & field season so far.

Junior Logan Blomquist has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week three times this season. He now ranks third all-time in Southeast program history for the hammer throw. In 2019, Blomquist is first in the conference for hammer throw and 29th in the NCAA Division I West Region (50th in NCAA DI). Blomquist tops the OVC this season in shot put and discus as well.

Junior distance runner Kaitlyn Shea has also earned OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week honors this season. Shea took first in the 5,000 meters at the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State with a time of 17:08.11. She currently ranks third in the OVC for the race in 2019.

More recently, Blomquist, Shea, and Kendall Long, each won individual event titles at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend.

Blomquist captured the shot put title. Shea won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a career best time that also ranks first in the OVC this season. And Long earned first in the 400 meter hurdles with a personal-record of her own. She ranks third in the OVC for the event this season.

The Redhawks will compete on the road this weekend and next, prior to hosting the OVC Championships. Visit GoSoutheast.com for complete championship event details and schedules.
