Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Support the Fight Against Cancer in Pink Up Initiative

Southeast Athletics

In an effort to help increase cancer awareness and prevention, the Southeast Missouri football team will again wear special Pink Up jerseys during the team's Pink Up game against Jacksonville State on Oct. 20.

This collaboration, led by fifth-year head coach Tom Matukewicz, is a way for SEMO football to celebrate survivors and honor those who have lost their battles with cancer.

Head coach Tom Matukewicz said he is thrilled to join Saint Francis to help make a difference in the community. In addition to raising awareness and money to fight cancer, the initiative is a life changing experience for the football student athletes, who have the opportunity to meet families that have lost loved ones to cancer.

The Redhawks help raise money by auctioning off the special edition Pink Up jerseys they’ll wear on Oct. 20. Fans can sponsor a jersey and personalize it with a name on the back – perhaps to honor a loved one who battled cancer, or even their own name as a commemorative souvenir.  After the game on Oct. 20, the game-worn jerseys will be presented to the winning bidders.

Fans interested in sponsoring a jersey can visit pinkup.org, and the deadline to sponsor is October 3. SEMO's football jersey auction has raised over $55,000 in the last three years.
