Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Softball Wins OVC Awards

Mark Redburn was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and junior center fielder Rachel Anderson was voted the league's Player of the Year. Redburn is SEMO's first OVC Coach of the Year since 2009, and Anderson is the first Redhawk to win the Player of the Year honors since 2001.

In his fifth year at SEMO, Redburn led the Redhawks to a share of the OVC regular season title and #1 seed in this week's eight-team tournament. SEMO put together a 17-5 conference record after being picked to finish fifth in the league's Preseason Poll.

SEMO has broken nine single-season school records, including total wins (41), and the Redhawks currently lead the OVC in 12 statistical categories.

SEMO is one of 12 teams in the nation with 41 or more victories and ranks among the top 30 NCAA Division I teams in four categories.   

A native of Edwardsville, Illinois, Anderson tops the OVC in seven categories, and ranks top 10 nationally batting average (8th), triples per game (3rd, 0.16), total bases (5th) and triples (2nd).
Senior pitcher Haley Thogmartin and junior first baseman Ashley Ellis accompanied Anderson on the All-OVC first-team, while junior outfield Claudio Gallo earned second-team honors.

SEMO began the OVC Softball Tournament as the #1 seed for the first time since 1999, and won their first game against #5-seed Eastern Kentucky, 6-0, to advance to the semifinals. The Redhawks will play the semifinal match-up today at 1:30 p.m. again regular season co-champion Jacksonville Stae. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
