Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Softball Will Play Team USA this Spring

Jan 23, 2020

The Defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Redhawks softball team will have a unique opportunity to play Team USA in an exhibition game on Sunday, May 3.

The 2020 USA Softball Women's National Team will play the Redhawks as its "Stand Beside Her" tour rolls through the United States in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The game will be part of an exhibition doubleheader as the team looks to capture the Gold Medal in Tokyo where the sport of softball returns to the Olympic program for the first time since 2008.

Hosted by USA Softball of St. Louis, both games will be played at CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Mo., with the Redhawks game at 2 p.m. followed by a game against a team of college All-Stars. Former SEMO outfielder Mykaela Arellanes and pitcher Haley Thogmartin are part of that All-Star team.

As of now, SEMO will be the only college program from the state of Missouri to play against Team USA.

With the return of softball to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games program, the "Stand Beside Her" tour provides much-needed training and competition for the 2020 WNT in their preparation for the Olympic Games while also giving fans a chance to watch the Red, White and Blue in person. Olympic competition will start July 22, 2020 with the Gold Medal Game being played on July 28.

Tickets for the Redhawks vs. Team USA are on sale now through the USA Softball of St. Louis office. Additional information is available at StandBesideHerTour.com.
