Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Receive OVC Academic Honors

Southeast Athletics

Redhawk student-athletes have been recognized again for their outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2017-18 school year.

The Ohio Valley Conference recently released its Commissioner’s Honor Roll and OVC Medal of Honor winners, and SEMO student-athletes racked up the recognition.

A total of 119 Southeast Missouri student-athletes were named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2017-18 academic year. To be listed, recipients must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average, have been eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport, and used a season of competition.

SEMO women's track & field landed the most student-athletes on the honor roll with 24 followed by women's soccer (17) and softball (16). On the men’s side, baseball led the Redhawks teams with 12 on the honor roll.

In addition to the Honor Roll, a total of 18 Southeast Missouri student-athletes earned the Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor for the 2017-18 academic year.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieves the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2017-18 academic year carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Redhawk student-athletes, along with the rest of the student body, are moving back to campus this weekend and will begin classes for the Fall 2018 semester on Monday. And the Redhawk Soccer team has already kicked off competition for the Fall season – they hosted Evansville yesterday evening, and will host in-state rival Missouri State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
