Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Lead the Way in OVC Academic Awards

Fall 2019 classes will be in session on Monday, and you can bet that Redhawk student-athletes will be ready. A total of 153 Southeast Missouri student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for this past2018-19 academic year. SEMO had the most selections to the Commissioner's Honor Roll of any OVC member institution (153).

The Redhawk women's track & field team landed the most student-athletes on the honor roll with 26 followed by softball and baseball which had 21 each. To be listed, recipients must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average, have been eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition.

In addition to Commissioner’s Honor Roll awards, the Redhawks also led the conference 37 OVC Academic Medal of Honor awards. The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2018-19 academic year carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

SEMO’s women’s track & field team had 11 Medal of Honor recipients, followed by softball and women’s tennis each with six. Southeast Missouri also had three different teams earn the OVC Team Academic Achievement Award. The women's tennis, women's track & field and women's cross country teams garnered the honor.

The Team Academic Achievement Awards are presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution's team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade point average or higher.
