Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Earn OVC Athlete of the Week Honors

SEMO Athletics

A pair of SEMO student-athletes have earned Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors this week.

Junior Romana Tarajova  was named the OVC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Tarajova captured a pair of singles and doubles wins as Southeast Missouri women's tennis (7-4) concluded its non-conference slate with victories over William Woods (twice, March 8) and Illinois State (March 13).

Head tennis coach Mary Beth Gunn said she has been playing high-level tennis, and she and her partner Kseniya Zonova are also dominating in doubles.

Tarajova secured a pair of wins in both the singles and doubles competitions this past Saturday against Illinois State, along with two doubles and singles wins over William Woods in SEMO's home-opening doubleheader.

SEMO is off to a 7-4 start to the season after being predicted to finish third in the OVC.

On the volleyball court, senior outside hitter Laney Malloy was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week.

Malloy led the Southeast Missouri women's volleyball attack with 35 kills (4.38 kills/set) on a .255 hitting clip as the Redhawks swept their series with Austin Peay March 14 and 15 at Houck Field House. She also posted 17 digs over the two contests with Austin Peay, and she added four assists, four aces and three blocks.

SEMO Volleyball is currently on a ten-match winning streak and positioned in third place in the OVC.
