Two Minute Drill: Brad Korn Era at SEMO Off to Solid Start

SEMO Athletics

The Brad Korn era is off to a solid start for the SEMO men’s basketball program. The Redhawks have two wins through their first four games, and they took their other two opponents into overtime.

The most recent victory came Monday, as Korn picked up his first win at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks defeated ASUN preseason favorite Lipscomb 82-77. The Redhawks led for the final 11:04 of the game, fighting off a Lipscomb team that pulled to within one point six times in the last 10 minutes.

Eric Reed Jr and Chris Harris led SEMO with 19 points each, and big-man Nolan Taylor added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the victory.

Then, two days later, the Redhawks traveled to Nashville to play Lipscomb again to complete a home-and-home series. SEMO trailed by as much as 15 points early in the second half, but went on a 20-2 run to erase the deficit. However, Lipscomb once again fought to stay in the game and made a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Lipscomb ultimately pulled away for a six-point victory in extra time.

Both Redhawk losses this season have come in overtime, and in both cases, it was a last-second shot by the opponent that tied it up before the end of regulation.

Chris Harris leads the squad and ranks fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference with 18.3 points per game, and Nygal Russel also ranks fifth in the OVC with 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Redhawks men play on the road at Evansville on Tuesday, and will return home for their OVC opener against UT Martin next Friday, Dec. 18.

Fans are allowed inside the Show Me Center for home basketball games this season, with a reduced arena capacity. Available seating groups have been socially distanced and face coverings are required. Tickets are available online at GoSoutheast.com and on gamedays.
