Southeast Missouri's Department of Athletics and its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (also known as SAAC) revealed a voting initiative for student-athletes and the SEMO community to engage in the 2020 national, state and local elections.
SEMO Athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee are working to raise awareness on the importance of voting to those across campus and to members of the community, particularly first-time voters. An informational website has been developed as an educational tool that includes detailed voting registration, absentee ballot information and nonpartisan candidate informational links. The website is available on GoSoutheast.com.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president Anna Griffin said they are excited about this initiative because it recognizes the importance of voting. Griffin, a junior softball student-athlete from Arkansas, said the best way to spark change and influence is to vote, and it’s important that SAAC help encourage everyone to vote because your vote does matter.
The Department of Athletics will not hold any team activities on Election Day, Nov. 3, so that student-athletes and staff members have every opportunity to make an impact through voting and volunteering in the community.
