Two-Minute Drill: Adams and Ochs Earn OVC Player of the Week Honors

Southeast Athletics

Maggie Adams and Claire Ochs each earned Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Adams was tabbed OVC Defensive Player of the Week and Ochs was named OVC Co-Setter of the Week as Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (11-7, 3-1 OVC) posted a pair of victories over preseason conference favorites Austin Peay and Murray State.

Head coach Julie Yankus said these are well deserved honors for both athletes during a great weekend for the team.

Adams earned her first career OVC weekly award after she led the Redhawks defense this past week with 18 total blocks (three solo, 15 assists) and averaged 2.25 blocks per set.

The middle blocker from Fenton, Missouri, opened the week with a career best 11 (two solo, nine assists) total blocks Friday in Southeast's 3-2 win over Austin Peay as the Redhawks registered a program-best 23.0 total blocks in the match.

Adams also added seven blocks Saturday in SEMO's sweep of Murray State. She compiled six digs over the two matches. Offensively, Adams notched 11 kills on a .355 hitting clip.

Ochs nabbed her second career OVC weekly honor and first career OVC Setter of the Week award Monday after she notched 83 assists this past week as Southeast hit at a .224 rate.

The sophomore from Chesterfield, Missouri, dished out a season high 53 assists in Friday's win over Austin Peay. She also added 19 digs in the match for the double-double outing.

On Saturday, Ochs totaled 30 assists with 10 digs against Murray State for her sixth consecutive double-double.

She finished the week with 29 digs, eight blocks, six kills and four service aces.

Adams and Ochs are the first pair of Redhawks to earn multiple OVC Weekly honors during the same week since Karleigh DeLong and Sarah Barth won OVC Offensive and OVC Setter Awards on Nov. 2, 2009.

SEMO returns to Houck Field House Friday for a four-match homestand in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The Redhawks host Eastern Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing SIUE Saturday at 2 p.m.
