During a special ceremony held yesterday at the Missouri State Capitol, Governor Mike Parson and First Lady Teresa Parson proclaimed December 2018 as “Christmas Tree Month” in Missouri. They also recognized many individuals from across the state in the Christmas tree business, including Steve and Teresa Meier from Jackson, MO.
The Meiers, who own Meier Horseshoe Pines in Jackson, provided a 14-foot white pine which stands just outside of the Governor’s Office, adding to the Capitol’s Christmas decor. They were chosen by the Missouri Christmas Tree Association, in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, and received special recognition by Gov. Parson.
"The Christmas tree is a classic symbol of the holiday season, and its sentimental importance is cherished by many Americans," Governor Parson said, according to a press release. "Missouri is proud to be home to Christmas tree farms that support this American tradition by providing families with the opportunity to harvest and personally select a family tree."
Jon and Charity Keith, co-owners of Ozark Valley Christmas Tree Farm in Southwest City, Missouri, were also recognized for providing a fraser fir wreath that hangs over the double doors leading into the Governor's Office.
