Pandemic Economics: A Case For Optimism

What would an economic recovery look like?
What would an economic recovery look like?

The economic crisis due to coronavirus has led to record unemployment. The economic devastation follows ten years of steady job growth, specifically for black and Latino workers. Many of these jobs might not return. An estimated 42 percent of layoffs due to coronavirus will result in permanent job loss. But even with the job market struggling, some economists still plead a case for optimism.

In this installment of our partnership with the podcast Pandemic Economicswe go over these figures.

What would an economic recovery look like? What would lawmakers and the private sector need to do? And how long could the recovery process take?

This series is in partnership with the Becker Friedman Institute at the University of Chicago.
