Site selection professionals are important players in the economic development world.
Many business expansion and relocation projects are led by individuals and teams from the site selection profession. They are charged with finding the best location for a project based on a detailed set of criteria provided by their client. That process includes analyzing data and demographics, determining unique characteristics of a given area, evaluating incentives, and onsite visits.
Helping this talented group of professionals better understand the Cape/Jackson metro is part of our responsibility at the Cape Area MAGNET. We do several things to establish and strengthen relationships leading to a deeper familiarity with our area.
We participate in site selector mission trips where we travel with a representative from the Missouri Partnership and meet with site selectors at their place of business. We attended trades shows and conferences designed to provide access to this group. We attended an annual conference hosted in Missouri where 10 – 12 national site selectors are brought in to help us improve our efforts.
Of course, our website plays a key role in this effort as so much community review work can be accomplished online. In addition, we do a quarterly electronic newsletter aimed at those professionals we have met, worked with, and hosted.
All of these efforts are important to our area and its development.
And, they pay off. Within the past two weeks, we have hosted two separate visits on some pretty cool projects.
