Let's Talk Business: KRCU to Expand Service to Poplar Bluff Area

With this recent announcement, let me just say delivering good news will get even better.

In case you missed the exciting news, the Board of Regents of Southeast Missouri State University announced KRCU Public Radio will expand its service region to include Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The Board approved acquiring the FCC license and equipment from KBIY 91.3 FM in Van Buren. Plans are to move the station to Ellsinore to expand broadcasting to Butler County.

This is an important strategic move for several reasons. First, this expands National Public Radio coverage to an additional part of the University’s service region. In addition, this action will allow KRCU to reach more than 47,000 people initially with the possibility of that number increasing to about 80,000 in the future.

From a business perspective, the move couldn’t be more strategic. Student enrollment is the lifeblood of all institutions of higher learning. The exposure Southeast will get on a daily basis is tremendous and the opportunity is immeasurable. KRCU will bring Southeast Missouri State University to the parents, students, and community leadership of this area daily. As we all know, people have a tendency to stay within their comfort zone and this gives the University an open door to establish an additional comfort level.

From its beginning in 1990, KRCU has been growing in listenership, programming, and significance. It sure is great to see this will continue.
