Let's Talk Business: A Busy Weekend in Cape/Jackson Metro

Cape Chamber

The last weekend in April was something special and hopefully just a preview of many more to come.

The Cape/Jackson metro was really humming all weekend and the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department was at the center of it all. In case you didn’t notice, let me tell what happened.

The Cape Girardeau SportPlex hosted the Reebok Series Midwest Super Showcase Basketball Tournament. At this full two-day event, 65 teams from Missouri and several surrounding states competed on the courts and then spent time and money enjoying the community.

The Shawnee Sports complex and Arena Park Sports Complex hosted the USSSA Girls Fast Pitch Tournament “Seven in the Spring” in which all teams were guaranteed seven games over three days. This tournament saw 80 teams participate. Once again, these teams were from Missouri and numerous surrounding states. And once again, their families spent time and money in the community.

And if that wasn’t enough, Cape Comic Con had a great, record breaking three day event at the Osage Center drawing more than 5000 attendees.

Hotels in Cape, Jackson, Perryville, and Sikeston were packed. And the restaurants were buzzing as well.
Missouri Division of Tourism says the average daily per person expenditure by sports tournament attendees is $95. You do the math. But let’s give a shout out to the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.
